No Such Thing As A Secret Sin

We must ask the question, does the Lord see only 1% of events in the world? Does the Lord see only 50% of events in the world? What does the Lord see?

Jeremiah 23:24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.

When we sin he sees, when we think to sin he knows. Matthew 5:28 “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart”.

Can we hide our sins from a God who’s wisdom is infinite? Who numbers the hairs on our heads? Matthew 10:30 “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered”.  What is the name of every star? Can anyone on earth tell? Psalm 147:4 “He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names”. Hence, why do we imagine we can hide sin from the Lord, this is not possible.

Question - If I worship Baal and statues is it sin?

Question – If I worship Baal and statues in secret is it sin?

Question – If I break sabbath is it sin?

Question – if I break sabbath yet the church doesn’t know is it sin?

Does a sin become less sinful if it’s done in secret? If the answer is clear, then why do we hold on to secret sins? Are we confident that the conversations we hold in the night, or in certain companies would be accepted of God? Is not every word recorded?

Matthew 12:36 “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment”.

So if one texts someone, or posts something somewhere or enters into a place one should not go, we must understand the Lord is aware of all of this. Can we take the messages we’ve messaged people and tell them to the congregation? If it would be much of a shame to show certain messages with certain individuals to the congregation how much less the Lord?

The Bible instructs us to be open about such weaknesses as we may have so we can help each other. James 5:16 “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”. Every sin done in darkness is harder to get out of. As there is no light one says to themselves, I am not seen and my sin is not discovered. This is where Satan has the advantage to drive you into despair. However, the Lord in his mercy may bring these sins to light, to save you from destruction. The Lord is aware that if he let us continue in those secret sins, the devil would finish us, so sometimes you may go so deep into sin, that by force the only way to escape the pit is to confess it in the open, because the consequences cannot be hidden. Let me give an example. A couple growing closer to the Lord fall into the trap of fornication, thinking it’s only this once we won’t do it again, yet they don’t take the necessary steps to avoid such a scenario again. If the thing be done in secret, it happens again and again. Often, when the lady becomes pregnant, then there’s no hiding the sin, the thing is known. So now Satan leads them deeper down into sin, at first the condition was to not fornicate, but because that was disobeyed, the choice the couple is faced with is “Should we get an abortion”, which means “Should we kill the child”. At this point the right thing to do would be to have the child. However, to keep the secret going they would have to add murder to fornication. To hide everything that’s going on, such as appointments at odd times to the family, they must now add lying to the list of sins. All this just because that sin which seemed small done in secret has turned into many sins, this is how Satan works.

Any sin done in secret, requires more sins to live in that way. Rather if we ask counsel from the brothers and sisters in the congregation there is safety. Proverbs 11:14 “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety”.

Israel followed the pattern of asking counsel from things which do not profit. Hosea 4:12 “My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God”.

Naturally if you ask counsel from false gods, which don’t exist, or the priests of false gods you will just receive evil communications. The scripture says 1 Corinthians 15:33 “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners”. Hence, we cannot walk in the counsel of the ungodly or fellowship (casually) with sinners. Psalm 1:1 “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful”. Our main goal is to evangelise to sinners in order for them to become brethren, so that we can fellowship with them at all times.

Notice what Israel did here, Hosea 4:13 “They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery”.

Did they commit adultery where the light was good or the shadow? They practiced these sins in darkness. This adultery is also the spiritual form of adultery, where they left the Lord for false gods. Jeremiah 3:1 “They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the Lord”. We further learn how the church would come to hear the prophet and agree with what he says, to go away and do secret sins.

Ezekiel 33:30 “Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the Lord. 31 And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. 32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not”.

We must take practical steps to avoid entering this trap of secret sins. Psalm 64:2 “Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity”. When it is suggested to you, let’s go to this place where there will be perhaps alcohol, you say no. When they offer you a cigarette/weed you say no. When they ask you why you say The Lord is why. The Lord can see it, he is not ignorant. Psalm 90:8 “Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance”.

What would be the end of all those who engage in sin secretly? Let’s break down some symbols. A woman is a church. Ephesians 5:23 “For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body”. Water represents everlasting life. John 4:14, "But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." Bread can represent prey. Psalm 14:4 “Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord.” We see bread also representing prey in Proverbs 6:26 “For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life”.

Hence Solomon under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit warned us Proverbs 9:13 “A foolish woman [Church] is clamorous: she [the church] is simple, and knoweth nothing. 14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, 15 To call passengers who go right on their ways: 16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth [lacketh] understanding, she saith to him, 17 Stolen waters [stolen life] are sweet, and bread [people] eaten in secret is pleasant. 18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell”. This woman who also represents the whorish church robs people of everlasting life, and she does it in darkness.

The Bible tells us plainly we should be correcting the actions done in darkness, Paul even says it’s a shame to speak of the thing done in the dark. Ephesians 5:11-13 “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. 12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. 13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light”.

We must remember to not engage in secret sins, Ecclesiastes 12:14 “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Every secret thing shall be brought into judgement”. Don’t wait until you’re in a position where you must reveal a secret sin because the consequences have become so great, repent now before it’s too late.

This message is a hard message for a reason, understanding this as soon as possible will avoid many complications later in one’s Christian walk. So do not be children of the dark, be children of the light. Do and say everything as if you can do and say those things openly. The truth is no sin is secret to God. Confess, repent and turn away, if It requires opening up to a brother or sister about where you’ve been struggling then do it, because once there is accountability you’ve put light on that sin. Accountability makes it harder for the devil to continue using it against you. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 9 “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. If you commit sin in secret, and you get into trouble and no one knew, who can help you up?” If one is too ashamed to confess that sin when there seemed to be no consequence, will it be easier to confess about the sin when the consequences are realised? The test becomes harder.

So I pray you were blessed by this study to see that we should not operate in the dark, but be open and walk in the day. This is a chastising message because like a Father, God needs to give us a hard lesson so we can grow in faith stronger, without disappointment. For God says Psalm 103:13 “Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him”. He also says Joel 2:12 “Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning”. It is written Proverbs 24:16 “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief”. God loves you, that’s why you’re hearing this hard message today. Hebrews 12:6 “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth”.
